Wastewater Treatment for the Dairy Industry

A leading German cheese manufacturer has selected EnviroChemie to deliver a high-performance industrial wastewater treatment plant capable of treating up to 715 m³ of process wastewater per day. The system is designed to reliably meet the requirements for discharge into the municipal sewer network.

Turning Cheese Production Wastewater into Renewable Energy

The treatment process begins with an equalization tank that balances fluctuating wastewater flows and ensures a consistent hydraulic load throughout the plant. This provides the foundation for stable, efficient operation of all downstream treatment stages. An Envochem® COL F dissolved air flotation (DAF) system then removes fats, suspended solids and other insoluble contaminants, preparing the wastewater for biological treatment.

Biogas Generation with anaerobe wastewater treatment, Biomar® ASBx reactor

At the heart of the plant is the Biomar® ASBx reactor, where microorganisms remove approximately 4.2 tonnes of COD every day while generating up to 2,000 m³ of biogas daily. Instead of being wasted, the organic load is converted into a valuable source of renewable energy, helping to reduce both operating costs and the plant's carbon footprint. The resulting biological sludge is stored before being dewatered.

The result is an 80% reduction in organic pollution together with significant energy recovery. By combining efficient industrial wastewater treatment with biogas production in a single integrated solution, EnviroChemie helps dairy manufacturers improve sustainability, reduce operating costs and turn wastewater into a valuable resource.
