Reliable Wastewater Treatment for the Paints and Coatings Industry with Modern Plant Technology

The production of paints and construction chemicals generates heavily contaminated wastewater with complex constituents and highly variable loads. At a production site in Germany, a new wastewater treatment plant was therefore installed to ensure reliable discharge into the sewer system, while also being designed for efficiency, operational reliability, and long-term viability.

What we did

EnviroChemie designed a new chemical-physical continuous treatment plant of the type Envochem® COL HD for the ongoing treatment of production wastewater. The design was based on prior testing to validate the treatment concept and ensure optimal adaptation to the specific wastewater composition.

Task

The existing plant was over 25 years old and no longer met current state-of-the-art standards. As a result, it could not keep up with increased demands in terms of capacity and treatment performance. In addition to complying with indirect discharge regulations, the system needed to reliably reduce high COD loads, surfactants, and other contaminants. At the same time, the treatment capacity had to be increased to up to 248 m³ of wastewater per day, along with the integration of sufficient buffer capacity.

Solution

The Envochem® COL HD wastewater treatment system enables continuous chemical-physical treatment through coagulation, neutralization, and flocculation. Automatic adjustment to fluctuating wastewater compositions ensures high process stability. The optimized precipitation process effectively removes contaminants while reducing chemical consumption. The resulting sludge is efficiently dewatered, and the treated wastewater is safely prepared for discharge.
