EnviroChemie is awarded a contract to build a plant for generating biogas from whey and sludge

A large dairy operation in the southern hemisphere has commissioned EnviroChemie to build a multi-stage biological plant for converting severely contaminated wastewater and sludge into biogas.

A large dairy operation in the southern hemisphere has commissioned EnviroChemie to build a multi-stage biological plant for converting severely contaminated wastewater and sludge into biogas.

The award was preceded by detailed consultations with EnviroChemie, while engineers from the German plant construction experts conducted a survey to determine the parameters governing the design of the system, and demonstrated the process engineering options to the customer.

System types Biomar AWR and OBR for anaerobic/aerobic treatment have been commissioned. As much as 2,200 kW biogas will be generated daily from approximately 180 m³ whey and flotation sludge from cheese production.

The customer was won over by the concept of treating organically severely contaminated wastewater and sludge to generate energy. Using the new plant technology, the customer can reduce the organic load in the wastewater while saving both primary energy and disposal costs.

EnviroChemie's expertise and the collaboration between the two companies to date convinced the dairy managers to go with the German plant manufacturer.

The new treatment plant is scheduled to go live before the end of 2019.
