Water Treatment for Green Hydrogen: EnviroChemie Delivers Plant for Conditioning Demineralized Water for Electrolysis

EnviroChemie is implementing a water treatment project for the production of green hydrogen. By combining reverse osmosis and ion exchange, the existing infrastructure is being expanded to ensure a reliable supply of high-purity demineralized water to electrolyzers.

EnviroChemie is delivering a new plant project for water treatment in green hydrogen production. With this contract, the customer is relying on EnviroChemie’s many years of expertise in industrial water treatment while strategically expanding its existing infrastructure.

A previous project already included the installation of an ion exchange system for the production of high-purity demineralized water for electrolysis processes. This system is now being enhanced with an upstream reverse osmosis (RO) unit.

Expansion of Water Treatment for Electrolysis Processes

The new plant is designed for the further treatment of demineralized water supplied from the customer’s utility network. Electrolyzers require large volumes of high-purity water, as water quality has a decisive impact on efficiency, operational reliability, and system lifetime.

The goal of the project is to ensure a stable supply of particle-free, high-purity demineralized water for hydrogen production.

Multi-Stage Water Treatment with Reverse Osmosis and Ion Exchange

The process concept is based on a multi-stage treatment approach. An upstream Envopur® RO reverse osmosis system reduces the load on the existing Envopur® ION ion exchange stage and increases overall plant efficiency.

The system is designed for a capacity of up to 27 m³ per hour and allows flexible adaptation to varying operating conditions of the electrolyzer.

Efficient Integration into Existing Infrastructure

In addition to process engineering and plant construction, a key focus lies on the reliable supply of the electrolysis process. The compact and well-designed plant configuration enables efficient integration into existing structures.

With this project, EnviroChemie is delivering a high-performance solution for water treatment in the field of green hydrogen, making an important contribution to sustainable industrial transformation.
