International project implemented – despite pandemic
In the meat industry, for example, wastewater with a high organic load is produced during the cleaning of production plants.
In the meat industry, for example, wastewater with a high organic load is produced during the cleaning of production plants.
The wastewater must therefore be treated before it is discharged – as is the case at an animal rendering plant.
The company is an international service provider for the agricultural and food industry. One of its main areas of focus is the recycling of products from the meat and food industries. The site mainly produces pre-treated process wastewater from cleaning processes and condensates from the recycling plant.
The customer is now using a proven concept. It consists of a Biomar® OMB aerobic treatment with intermittent denitrification/nitrification, followed by sludge separation in a membrane bioreactor with submerged ultrafiltration membranes. Large tanks were designed due to the high organic loads and the high demands on the effluent parameters, which are quite comparable with European direct discharge limits. Both bioreactors have a net volume of approx 5,800 m³ each, which leads to a wastewater retention time of more than two weeks, in these tanks. This is enough time for the wastewater to meet the limit values after treatment.
The contract was signed in June 2019 and the system was finally accepted by the customer in September 2020.
Thanks to the experience of our EnviroWater Group member, Clearfleau, in this field of application, in England and our broad-based presence were able to persuade the customer of EnviroChemie’s expertise. In retrospect, this proved to be a fortunate coincidence for the customer, because despite the corona lockdown, we were able to make this project a success with the help of our local subsidiary. During commissioning we supported and advised our colleagues on site, via remote access to the automation technology.
