Treatment of fresh and waste water from pickled gherkins production

SpreeWald Konserven-Feldmann GmbH & Co. KG, Lübben, Germany

Description of the plant

The entire requirement of fresh water is covered by ground water. Therefore two wells were drilled. The water treatment consists of deacidification, iron removal, manganese removal, softening and demineralisation. The treated water is stored in a ground buffer tank.

The waste water coming from the production reaches the aerated mixing and equalization tank via a floating chute and a screening plant. The mixing and equalization tank which is designed as a lock seam tank can later become reequipped to a controlled aerobic biological treatment, if needed. The waste water discharge takes place with flow control. The pH-value required is adjusted by a continuously working neutralization plant. The exhaust air from the mixing and equalization tank is cleaned by a biological filter.
