Treatment of radioactive waste water - Robert Bosch Hospital

Plant Description
The radioactive waste water from the nuclear medicine therapy department of the hospital is stored in a buffer tank until it meets regulations for radioactive matter.  The layout of the plant was tailored to daily waste water requirements and yearly activity.
These water-saving processes are used to reduce radioactive waste water:
  1. special vacuum toilets were installed
  2. the water in showers and bathroom sinks is collected, disinfected and used again in toilets
  3. the observation of daily use of drinking water in patients' rooms is fully automated.  If the predefined limit is overdrawn, the shower of that room is disabled and a visual and acoustic signal is set off at the nurses' station.  Shutting off the signal reactivates the shower.
Before the treated waste water returns to canalization, an automatic measurement is recorded and sent to the relevant state agency.  It is also possible to estimate when a container in use will be full and ready for disposal.
