Milk and more in Israel
There is no possibility for the discharge of treated effluent to open water. The total effluent from this huge dairy amounting to about 500 m³/h needs to be treated in such a way that the treated effluent can be used in agriculture for irrigation. Besides the organic matter also the salt concentration is critical. The salt concentration of dairy effluent is highly influenced by caustic from CIP and the required neutralisation chemical.
These are the reasons that TNUVA decided to install a separate treatment line for caustic from CIP mainly consisting of a Envopur® nanofiltration and an evaporation stage. This filtration unit allows the retention of the main milk components. The separation of these components is evident in order to avoid scaling and precipitation in the following concentration process. The concentrate formed during the filtration process is used externally as cattle food.
The filtrate mainly caustic soda 1 % is further treated by evaporation and is finally reused as caustic 10 % for CIP, the condensate of the evaporation is used as DI water in the factory.
The Envopur® filtration unit is designed in two trains and alkali-resistant tubular membranes are installed.
