Envopur® UFI in the Recycling of Aircraft De-Icing

At the de-icing stations aircrafts are sprayed with de-icing agent immediately before the take-off. Not only for ecological but for economical reasons as well, at the airport Munich the surplus agent is caught, purified and fed back into the system for re-use. High demands are made on the recycling process.

The recycling of the de-icing fluid is carried out at the airport Munich since 1992. With that process one receives the primary substance of the de-icing agent after separation of the undissolved components, removal of dissolved substances by ion-exchange and a final thermal concentration.

Nowadays, the de-icing agents to be recycled contain thickening additives, which block the main treatment step in the above described recycling process. For this reason the recycling plant at the airport Munich was expanded by the ultrafiltration unit type Envopur® UFI to separate these thickeners completely. The cut off was chosen to separate blocking substances (thickeners) and to recover valuable chemicals (Glycol), which pass through the membranes.
